Nostalgia & History > Iron Ore north on the North Penn 1970'sDate: 09/02/06 08:39 Iron Ore north on the North Penn 1970's Author: RDG630 The Reading Railroad's Bethlehem Branch (ex-North Pennsylvania Railroad)carried a lot of iron ore from Philadelphia to Bethlehem. These photos show ore trains at Telford, Rockhill, Souderton, nearing Quakertown and north of Telford in twilight. What a treat to see and HEAR them struggle up the 4-mile 1.1 % grade through the Perkasie Tunnel with 8,000 tons of ore.
