Did they try it out east of Jamestown? If so, any word on how well it faired on the sharp curves going through Sonora?

This engine (1501) was operated Oakdale to Tuolumne (57 miles) for five days. with no problems. Sharpest curve on the Sierra Railroad line is located just east of Canyon Tank Station (Milepost 23), not above Jamestown, as most people believe. After testing Baldwin demonstrators 1501, 750 & 751, in 1948 and 1950, Sierra Railroad elected to stay with steam, and purchased Weyerhauser 2-6-6-2 #4 (38) in 1952.

Wow what a great photo of a Baldwin Demo unit. Always thought that the Sierra had only tested the S-12 750-751. Thanks for sharing.
