Santa Fe in the trench, Pasadena, CA - 1991
Author: PasadenaSub

Here's another of a westbound Santa Fe intermodal train down the center of the 210 freeway in Pasadena. ATSF 129 leads 4 more GP60M's, as seen from the Lake Avenue overpass in April 1991. The Wilson Ave. overpass seen in the background would later become my 210 freeway vantage point of choice due to better parking nearby.

This was scanned from an Agfa print film negative, from a free roll I was treated to for having a disposable camera developed at a small shop in Dubai, UAE of all places - when I was in the Persian Gulf at Uncle Sam's request - called up as a reservist to float around on a Navy amphibious ship for a few months early in '91. Photo scratches courtesy of Long's Drug Store developing.

Happy Thanskgiving weekend,

Rich

Is this trench now filled in for the LRT?

Good picture!

Thanks, everyone. The trench is still there, now double-tracked and electrified for the MTA Gold Line. The trench portion is probably less than a mile-long, as the ROW goes from running alongside the 210 traffic lanes to descending to ground level and exiting the freeway running (via a tunnel) near Walnut Avenue and Marengo in Pasadena.

And nowadays, you're likely to see a Warbonnet GP60M like 129 on the San Jack (BNSF switch job that serves the Moreno-Perris Valley area SE of Riverside CA). At Perris the BNSF connects with Southern California's oldest existing electric railway line, Orange Empire Ry. Museum. And so the world turns...

Rich,

Would that be the Dubai Seafarer's Center? Been there several times ... what gator were you on?
