Author: engine3420 Perhaps some of you infernal combustion fans can tell me what the make and model is....I took this photo way back in 1962 at Fort Worth...could this be a Whitcomb ?...it was still in service when I took the photo..

Rock Island 1000-1016 were Whitcomb/Canadian Locomotive Company 75DE12C 500 hp diesels, delivered in 1949 and 1950. 1005 was traded in to GE in December 1966. Author: Steamjocky To give a little more history on these RI engines, they were to originally be CN units 7803-7820 but part of the order was cancelled and returned to the builder, the Canadian Locomotive Co., who was the builder for Whitcomb. Seventeen engines, 1000-1016, went to the RI while one went to Washington & Old Domion as their #55. At least three of them went to other owners before being scrapped. This info comes from 1967 DIESEL SPOTTERS GUIDE by Jerry Pinkepank.
