SP Roster Shots
Author: qnyla

I never put much effort into roster shots, but did take them when an opportunity presented itself. I have since learned the error of my ways. I have been running some SP roster shots through the scanner for archiving, and thought I'd post a few here in case there are any SP fans amongst us.

1. SP GP9E 2870 in fresh paint is at Davis, CA on the Cal-P mainline in lead of a westbound freight making a set-out on October 5, 1980.

2. SP SDP45 3209 is in weekend freight service as it sits in the West Pass siding at Davis, CA waiting for Amtrak #5 on October 26, 1980.

3. SP GP9E is leading a westbound train making a set-out at Davis, CA on May 27, 1980.

You usually hear that lament the other way around, from folks who shot mostly rosters and now wish they had learned to take the kinds of dramatic action shots you've been posting here lately. It's all good, one way or another.

Looks like 1524 and 1527 once had those short-lived Sacramento Locomotive Works plates mounted below their road numbers on the cab side.

Amazing to see the 1192 in Kodachrome paint. I didn't realize there were other SP switchers besides SW1500's and MP15's (AC and DC) painted in the SPSF scheme.

Beautiful shots John—thanks for sharing them...and 1192 is an SW900E.

Built 06/1954
Model SW900
Frame No. 4276-7
delivered as SP 4632, to SP 1178 in the 1965 general renumbering, to SP 1192 after rebuilding, to CAGX 11, currently RS 203 and last reported working for ConAgra at Hastings, MN.

wasn't the 1192 the SAC-Shops switcher? IIRC, it was retired within a year or two after SPSF repaint.

GREAT STUFF John! You picked a great time to eb taking rosters with so many fresh repaints coming out of Sacramento.

I'm sure the question has already been asked but:

What kind of scanner and software are you using? These scans are great!
