A Canadian Adventure Part 10
Author: SP6190

August 13, 1979

#1 The next morning we headed west again, catching our first train at Wildwood Alberta. Here we have the 5264 is leading a GP9 on a mostly box car train.

#2 Then near Carrot Creek we caught #4 with the 6514 on the point.

#3 The closest motel we could get near Jasper was in Hinton, about forty miles away. After checking in, we headed for Jasper. We photographed the 5282 again in Jasper National Park. Same engines, different cars as the day before leaving Edmonton.

#4 At Jasper we caught the 5245 leaving westbound on a ballast train.

#5 While wondering around waiting for a train, we came across the latest in telecommunications, CN style.

#6 The next train in was the 5236, which we caught on the east end of town.

#7 Back in town we shot the 6015 which was on display near the depot.

#8 Meanwhile in the yard we find the 5218 ready to depart after #3.

#9 And here comes the 5282 again. Still heading west.

#10 The 5313 was next with a coal train, running ahead of #3, but not by much. After a main line crew change the train was again on itÂ’s way.

#11 Finally #3 arrived. They did a not so quick crew change and passenger exchange and then it was out of town in a cloud of smoke and a "Hi-yo, Silver, away!" Oh, and the ditch lights were added in Jasper for the trip west.

#12 Back at the roundhouse we find the 4229.

#13 And the 5218, 9177. The 9177 will lead the next Via train to Prince Rupert.
