Pepper Ave....1991
Author: mcdeo

These are a series I found in 'a box'. I narrowed the date to sometime in 1991.

Pepper Ave. in Southern California, at the East end of the SP Colton departure yard.

Found a couple more, but look more like 1993 if I recall. I guess I should have labeled the pictures.

WOW SP 1517 ! I miss her. I spent a lot of time at pepper in 1994 - 95. You still could see a hand full of Cadillac's and GP9's. Especially on the "sphauler" which was a transfer job that both Santa Fe and SP took turns running. I will have to dig through my photo's and post a few.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Pepper Ave....1994 or 1995?

the first guys are definitely early 90's due to lack of speed lettering, SSW GP60's still looking good only a few years old and the starting peeling paint on the GRIP II rebuild SP 68XX series SD45T-2R's.

But the last set of photos in the speed lettering era with the SP C44-9W and repaint GP3 (rare for this class, all based in L.A.) is either late 1994 or probably 1995. The 101 SP 8100 class C44-9W's were delivered in 1994 and 8167 came towards the end in October. Based on the dinginess and fact that I remember the fresh spotless SP dash-9's just getting to L.A. around the Holidays of December 1994, gotta be some part of 1995. IIRC, the SP GP35R's (their super short carbodies barely long enough to contain the full size Speed Lettering "Southern Pacific")were repainted into speed lettering sometime in 1994...

SP SD38-2 2973

Great shot of a lone SP SD38-2 2973. Actually this reply is so I can find pics of all SP SD38-2's (because of this unlabeled photo) with the image search filter.
