Another SD-7 with a Can
Author: dmaffei

The only other Can Light Cadillac in my collection is the 1416. Shown here in switcher service in Sparks Nevada sometime in the mid 70's. Note the smiley face on the headlight.
If you remember the 70's, you remember the yellow smiley faces, bell bottoms and Disco.
Have A Nice Day!

Was able to dig this thread out of the archives (thought it was earlier though), quite a bit of info presented about the large headlights, interesting NWP photos as well: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,1250640,page=1

I remember that Thread. After reading it again, I wonder if 1442 and 1416 were the last two Cadillacs to have the large Headlights? What I find most amazing is how long the SD-7s and 9s lasted for the SP.
They were money well spent indeed.

That "as delivered"scheme is an eye catcher. I Like it. That has to be the mid 1950's or so. What I'm not sure about is the single fuel tank. Originally they had two tanks, one for steam generator water?
Or were some delivered from EMD with one tank? Most builders photos show two tanks. NWP was owner of SPs first six axle power. Nice photo.

Strapac's SD-7/-9 book has some great info on the different builds.

22 units - those built without steam generators - came with only the rear tank.
