The F and the UP SD40s, if the year is indeed 1967, is the earliest record of the UP-SP power pool I have seen. A very rare photo

It could be 1968. It doesn't have a date on it, but it was in with the 67 stuff.

The first actually written record of UP-SP pooling on a regular basis is the fall of 1968 per Sacramento Div East End train order books. I read somewhere that the pool began in May, 1968, so 1968 would be more correct rather than 1967 unless it was an experiment

I not only like the subject matter of the pictures, but also the surroundings. Just seeing illuminated switch stands, the autos, the surrounding land before development all make for a really interesting picture.

Thanks,
garrett

Can you see the F-units' number?

Great couple of threads. I enjoyed all the pictures but really love those C628 F-unit combos!

Was it an 'OPPS' as in some kind if secret operation or an 'OOPS' as in derailment ? If an 'OOPS', what happened ?
