Pursuant to the previous discussion regarding CB&Q 5632, I found a picture of the 5632 on an excursion in the Dollar Picture Box at my local hobby shop today.

CB&Q 5632 at Kansas City MO 5-29-60. NO other details available.

Very nice, indeed--thanks for sharing yard clerk! Check out that white-hatted hogger and wonder what he might be thinking running 5632 past all the fans in the photo-line? If you don't have it, check out the recording "Sunday Only" by Mobile Fidelity which immortalizes the Q's steam program that was unfortunately dropped when Menk took over.

THANKS, Bob! That dollar box is beginning to make me think about driving south!

Regarding the engineer's white hat, you see that a great deal on Q excursion shots. Those were classy guys running classy trips!

Is that engine on display--or--did it go to scrap? I keep forgetting which one of the 1960s Era "high profile" excursion steamers met this horrid fate--I keep thinking that this is it, but would love to be proven wrong???

Beautiful shot!!!

Red,
Unfortunately, your memory of 5632's fate is correct. She might be nails holding your home together right now.

I have the CD of 'Sunday Only' ... the recording of 5632 heading westbound out of Burlington is a religous experience ...

The Q ran a pair of excursions on 28 and 29 May 1960. IIRC correctly, this was westbound on a photo-runby about a mile east of Kearney, MO. The man in the cab is not the hogger; I think that is Mr McCarter, an official, (Road Foreman of Eng. I think). The trip was run clock-wise from KCY to St.Joe, the Cameron Jct., to Kearney, to N.KCY and ended back at KCUD. Rode on Ist day and chased her the 2nd day. First day, I was given a cab-ride and had my first "over" 60 mph ride on steampower. Wow! wag216

Sold to a fellow who stored her in Chicago on the C&WI along with a GTW steamer and other odds and ends. He got in a tussle with the C&WI over storage payment and they scrapped the 5632. He took them to court where over a ton of 5632 parts were introduced in court for evidence. He also lost the GTW steamer in the same way when Metra wanted him to move it or lose it.

Two fine engines gone due to ignorence!

This is still the loudest engine I have ever heard.Riding behind her was like standing at the end of a runway with a jet flying overhead at takeoff.
