Author: africansteam Over a half century has passed since Art Laidlaw shot this picture of a fan trip behind SP 4454 at San Luis Obispo station. The railroading scene here has changed considerably in the years leading up to the arrival of todays Coast Starlight. But there is one constant. The wooded backdrop behind the trains. The eucalyptus and the palm trees have outlived the GS-4, seen the "Genesis" of the P-42's and will probably witness their end time as well. Nature doesn't have built in obsolescence.
