SP's "Puff and Huff", in Niles Canyon......
Author: ATSF100WEST

The famous Peninsula diesel duo hustles towards Niles Tower through the canyon of the same name, in January, 1976, with an East Pleasanton Turn in tow. If these were any cleaner, you could use them as dinnerware!

Thanks for looking,

Bob

Boy, I sure miss the sound of a 567 in run 8 going up the hill. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

Great image Bob, for a minute I thought this was a model photo being how clean the engines were.

That's what I enjoyed about running those work trains over here on Caltrain, pure 567's in the GP9's with that gritty non turbo sound, guess the MP15's had the non turbo 645's. Still nice to have a set of power on a train that you could actually tell was doing something when you cracked the throttle, instead of a loud whine from the turbo equipped power, I've always been the type to run with the window open at all times to hear what the engine was doing performance wise.

That sure was a great image Bob posted, sure wish I was a railroader 20yrs earlier. So how have things been with you these days?

Take care,

Frank

SP kept the commute fleet engines relatively clean, even in the final years. Check out the roof of 3188 in this shot of mine from 1978

I'm sure you do miss them 567s, but you forgot the mention swaping seats with one from an SD45. MRC has told the many stories of seat swappage.

Some great SP commute power photos.
Love the top shot of the geep.
JDE,
I think you need to find a copy of Mr.D's machine. (now on CD)
Some classic SP sounds on that Album.

I have that, Dave. But it's on a record and not a CD. All I need now is a real record player.

JDE - More antique equipment needed

Cool...I may have to get First Gen Diesels on CD. I have the record, but having that on the computer would be great!

There was another album with lots of SP diesel from the Sierras and around the Bay Area in the 70s. Anyone remember?

Man, when SP kept their units clean, they did, sad they slacked on that by the mid 80s!
