NYC River Div. passenger train circa 1959
Author: DocJohn

I was adding an LS-120 drive to a new PC and first diskette I tried contained a TIFF imaged I had scanned in from the original 8 x 10 glossy. I was the photographer and was about 14 at the time. Picture was taken at Haworth, NJ. Picture was taken in year before passenger service ended 12/1959.

View is looking north. Engineers would generally stop the southjbound trains with the last car just to the south of the Haworth Avenue crossing. This would let the gates go up. The platform for the southbound trains was put in late 1940s or early 1950s as original platform was between the tracks.

You did great for age 14! Wish mine from back then were any good. Is that a big finned DeSoto at the crossing?

I had a very simple camera that used 610 size film, which gave a large negative. I had a fair amount of practice the summer of 1958 when the family had vacationed in the Point Pleasant area and I was able to record the CNJ fleet of F-M units.
