Road Trip 1983, In search of sun Part 7
Author: SP6190

Jun 23, 1983

After a rainy night in North Platte Nebraska we again headed east along the Union Pacific main line. Again wondering if we would see some sunshine.

#1 Near Cozad we came upon a mini line-up of trains all waiting or moving slowly through a maintenance of way project. First off was the 2924 with two other U30C’s on a loaded coal train.

#2 A little bit farther along we met the 9005 another GP40X leading two CNW GP50’s and a CNW SD40-2 on a westbound.

#3 Behind the 9005 was the 2423 on a solid C30-7 consist, 2 UP and 1 BN.

#4-5 It wasn’t long before the 2924 caught us and met the 2423.

#8 Then near Kearney we shot the 3107 with another empty coal train.

#9 At Kearney we shot the Peavey Grain 1281.

You've got some great images here; but, wow, that last one stopped me. Just last week I scanned this one of Peavy #1280 at La Paz, IN, in '84. Gerry
