Nostalgia & History > Men Killing TimeDate: 06/15/07 18:28 Men Killing Time Author: xtra1188w Men Killing Time, or Monkeys Kangaroos Tigers. That's what my old friend, the Katy conductor Archie Campbell used to say the letters "MKT" stood for. Since he was "The Brains", I reckon that he probably knew what he was saying as far as the "Men Killing Time" part went. "The Brains" was an old time nickname for a railroad conductor. This was in the era when conductors actually conducted. Since the debut of compooters, and computing the waybills, and etc. what do conductors do in today's trains beside sit on the right hand side and make the big bucks? 8>)

TCS - my kangaroo talks Date: 06/16/07 19:04 Re: Men Killing Time Author: fjc In reading a book written by an old head conductor that worked on many roads, and had ridden in many cabooses in his time, part of his book he lists some of the slang terms used for cabooses and one was "Brain Box".

Enginemen don't usually ride in the caboose. Firemen ride in the lefthand seat, if they have time. Mark Date: 06/17/07 14:59 Re: Men Killing Time Author: xtra1188w upkpfan Wrote:
