ATSF U28CG's

Anyone here have any good shots of the 350 class steam generator roof arrangement behind the cab as delivered or before the steam generators were removed?

Thanks

There aren't many good "roof" views of as-delivered U28CG's in print, that's for sure. The best I can come up with are:

1. Santa Fe in Color 1940-71 Vol.1 p. 26 of 358 at Dearborn Station, Chicago, IL.

2. Warbonnets and Bluebonnets p. 18 of 357 at Tower 55, Dallas, TX (same photo on p. 54 of Warbonnets

3. Santa Fe Streamliners p. 107 of 350 in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma.

Larry Ochiello had an article on converting an Athearn model into a U28CG in the May/June 1973 issue of the SFMA High Iron with diagrams of the s/g section, but no roof photos. Likewise, an article on modeling U-boats in the May/June 1977 Santa Fe Prototype Modeler has only ground-level rosters and crude roof diagrams for the U28CG.

One really good shot would be the publicity photo used on the promotional brochure for the Super C. It would have been a nice roof view of 352, except that Chico is "riding" the engine and blocking parts of the steam generator section!

DieselDoc,

This is the only picture I have found showing the top of a U28CG. This is No. 350 in Kansas City in July 1968.
