SEPTA #2761 in Darby, PA
Author: drew1946

Rolling down Main St. on the 11-Line in Darby, PA, PCC 2761 is heading to the Darby Loop in June 0f 1976. The 1947 product of the St.Louis Car Company Would last into the 1980's untuil being sold to an individual in 1983. The orange was the standard SEPTA color for streetcars, excuse me, TROLLIES, at the time.

The 11 continues to operate using single ended Kawasaki cars.

If I recall correctly, it designated an out of service car or one that was not running the full route such as turning back at a different location.

The red slash through the number designates a car that is not going to the normal end of the line. It was started by the Mitten Management of the PRT in 1911, and was used up until the new Electronic signboards became universal. Although the Kawasaki Trolleys still have curtains so they still use the slash. It was thought that the slash would get peoples attention and makes them look at the destination side of the sign to see if the car (or bus) was going far enough for them to get on. Nowadays people just get surprised when the E bus they got on doesn't go all the way to GTN and Chelton Aves.
