Reminds me of my days working for Santa Fe, replacing radio units on Alco switchers. The radio lived in a big silver box in front of the cab, and those units often had a 3-piece system: Power supply, transmitter and receiver modules. Tube type, of course (our friends in Britain call 'em "valves"). To reach the box, one had to climb up the end of the hood, walk past the smokestack (steam era terminology is appropriate for Alco's!) and work on the radio. I'm sure all that funky diesel exhaust does nothing for one's longevity.

For me the heyday of Taylor was before "Disneyland" in the background, and filled with first gen diesels. (and still a few steam engines)
