Albany, California train robbery
Author: stash

Here's a scan of something I ran across in "The Story of Albany" printed in 1947.

Wow that's very interesting. Too bad law enforcement don't work as efficiently today!

The engineer was Ray Lemery, a long time family friend from my childhood. He has been gone almost forty years. My family has the Nobel station sign.

Wharfrat, you have been awfully quiet for a long time! Now that you have made your confession, put that station sign back up - if you can figure out the exact spot. This story was reported in SP Trainline several years ago, along with a photo and drawings. I could never calculate the exact location with the change in mileposts, etc.

The 1949 movie "White Heat" contains an outstanding scene of a train robbery using SP steam and passenger equipment of that era. Kind of brings the Nobel robbery to mind.
