Mission Impossible 1st season Train episode
Author: john1082

Watching a first season episode of Mission Impossible. An episode where a train wreck was staged as a part of the story to discredit the bad guys. UP was used for the rail scenes, including a UP EMD switcher, #1021. A good yarn.

That was a good episode with quick thinking Roland Hand as the conductor, Barney as the switcher engineer and Willie as a switchman. Probably filmed at UP's L.A.Yard but supposed to be one of those fantasy, eastern European, commie countries.

Now that Union & Pacific is operrating (parden my poor english?) our national rail way I hoping they will bring famous stem engines from Cheyanne Wyoming in the Cowboy Country for excursion here!

It's episode 24 from the first season.  For some small prices, it can be streamed on Amazon or added to your online library.

Extensive scenes at UP's East LA Yard and warehouse on Ferguson Drive east of the passenger station.  Freight cars belonging to A&WP, SP and NP can be seen.  An E unit, passenger cars and switch engines also appear.

As far as the plot and execution, extremely hokey but what can we expect from Hollywood?

Talking about Mission Impossible, what about the Tom Cruise movies?  One of the earlier movies has a helicoptor chasing a high speed passenger train (TGV perhaps?) into the Chunnel between France and England.  Problem is there is no catenary to deal with!!!

In a case of life following fiction, the California State Railroad Museum at Sacremento has an open section
heavyweight sleeper that is fitted out with rockers, audio, and "flash boxes" over the windows.  It creates a
pretty good effect of being in a moving sleeper at night.  Almost as good as the Mission Impossible episode!
