The Railroad Industry & War Time Efforts Trivia Questio

This may be too easy for some, but what does this rifle and handgun have in common with the railroad industry during war time efforts of WWI and WWII?

Fire away.

Manufactured by an old-line railroad supplier?

Getting warmer, but the question is who?

Both companies were involved with different aspects of the railroad industry.

And further more, both were located in the same state, which state?

I'll reveal the answer later if no one gets it, but I'm sure someone will soon.

Both of these will soon have a new home in my collection too, the railroad connection was one of the reasons for purchasing these items and the fact that I'm into military weapons collecting ;-)

Let me take a wild guess since the 1911 was made by Union Switch & Signal and is so marked? the 1917 from Eddystone or also from US&S?

Yes, we have a winner here.

The 1911 is indeed a Union Switch & Signal company of Swissvale, PA.

The 1917 is indeed a Eddystone of Baldwin Locomotive Works, Eddystone, PA.

That one from Swissvale would send a rather strong "signal" (you might even call it a form of Positive Train Control.)

Oh yea, you definetly want to be on the other end of that one, now that I got gun in hand so to speak I need to pose it next to my double pot signal ;-)
