Is anyone familiar with the the set-up with the PRR roof mounted antennas on diesel locomotives, steam loco tenders and cabooses? Anyone here actually use it? Did any other railroads have anything like this?

How well did it work? When did it become obsolete? I see photos of the antennas on passenger locomotives but haven't seem them on passenger cars. Were they also on the roofs of some passenger cars? If so, which ones?

Was this some kind of induction wave thing?
