Nostalgia & History > PRR F7 9818 @ 1960/1961Date: 01/13/10 04:29 PRR F7 9818 @ 1960/1961 Author: poffcapt Anyone know where this is? The photo was developed in April, 1961. From other photos in the group that are marked, I am assumming it is in Indiana or Ohio. I believe the photographer was Dave VonGunten of Ft. Wayne. I bought a couple hundred of his photos about 2 years ago.
BLS Date: 01/13/10 07:27 Re: PRR F7 9818 @ 1960/1961 Author: ATSF100WEST May be way off, but it kind of looks like 59th St., in Chicago.
That said, I wonder where the rest of the power was? Those "whisker tracks" should be providing some "similar" company for those "F's". Still, I'm grateful for the photographer taking it and for you sharing it. Did he take any photos of the New York Central at Fort Wayne? I am from Fort Wayne and never heard of him. Date: 01/16/10 16:42 Re: PRR F7 9818 @ 1960/1961 Author: poffcapt I don't know what he was doing there. Looks like he was leaning out of a car or something. I have a bunch of photos from around Fort Wayne in this bunch. I will get to a few more as I can, but most of them were pretty bad. What was worse, is some of the better ones have been ripped apart at the bottom like they had been stuck together and someone just gave them a "yank"!
I did a Google search of the fellow a couple of years ago. I will do another and see if anything comes up, but I won't be posting any personal information other than the name I already posted to give him credit for the photos. Barry Date: 01/17/10 18:20 Re: PRR F7 9818 @ 1960/1961 Author: Markedup I asked a few people ,at the Three Rivers Railroad Historical Council
meeting today, about Dave VonGunten. No one I asked knew of him. I think the photo is looking West from the control cabin on the roundhouse turntable. The church spire and tall building to West look like Fort Wayne. The factory building behind the switcher is still there, across the NS, former Wabash tracks.I can't get resolution to tell if the black object back of switch engine is a railcar. The East to West pole line doesn't look much like a Rail telegraph line to me.
