Nostalgia & History > Looking for BAR F3A #49 Pic's & infoDate: 03/11/10 14:45 Looking for BAR F3A #49 Pic's & info Author: dcmkris Hello all I have been researching the history of BAR F-3A #49.
During my research I have uncovered a ton of information but I still have some blanks I am trying to fill in. I hope some of you might be able to help. I am looking for photos of this unit between 1973-1980's. This F-3A was involved in a wreck with BL-2. The BL-2 was scrapped and parts were used to repair this unit, when it was completed it came out with the gray, orange, and black paint scheme, except the orange stripe was straight around the unit without the nose dip or "V". It was repainted into the "V" scheme within a year or so. Now what I need to figure out. Was the white pinstripe added before it was repainted into the "V" scheme, when was it repainted into the "V" scheme? Was this unit delivered with dynamic brakes, or were they removed after the accident? I have several photos showing the unit after the rebuild and it is clearly without dynamic brakes. At some point the BAR added a gyralight. This was after the 1973 rebuild, but I am not sure when it was added, so does anyone have an idea of when it was added? The only other F-3 to wear this scheme had the lettering font changed after 1981, did this one get the same treatment? Any pic's of the above mentioned unit would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! It does help as I can now pretty much assume that this unit did not get the revised lettering style. It was cut up in 1984 after the second hand GP38's arrived on property. Kris Date: 03/11/10 21:14 Re: Looking for BAR F3A #49 Pic's & info Author: LV95032 Kris,
#49 started out as #47 before the rebuild. Checking BAR rosters you will find that F3's #46 and #47 were passenger equipped units and had a water tank in the place where the freight F3's had the dynamic brake grid. So neither #46 or #47 were built with dynamic brakes. #49 was in pieces when #46 and #44 were sold and permission was given for any usable small parts from #49 could go with #46 and #44 as part of the sale thus #49's nose door came south with F3's #44 and #46. Although wearing different color paint both #44 and #46 remain as the only operational original condition F3's in 2010.
