My Contribution to remembering the Rock
Author: BNSFDS

While I'm a little too young to have any memories of the Rock Island (I was 3 when they folded), I've been able to find a few surviving items that I documented over the years.

1 and 2. Rock Island E6 630 and E7 652 parked at Baldwin City, Kansas.

3. Rock Island 4-6-2 905 in the park at Duncan, OK. This engine is presently being cosmetically
restored and will soon be moved to its new location next to the new Welcome Center. For more
information, go to http://rockisland905.com/

Wow, I wish those units were in a museum.

From previous posts, I recall that the E-units are both slated to be moved from the Midland Ry. in Kansas to the Manly Junction Railway Museum in Manly, Iowa. The museum has the backing of the Iowa Northern Railroad and I believe operation is planned. I think Midland is in the process of rebuilding part of their line and/or bridge(s) before the E-units can be moved.
