Nostalgia & History > Santa Fe Caboose at Pomona, Ca. 1967Date: 04/06/10 04:03 Santa Fe Caboose at Pomona, Ca. 1967 Author: Starship_Conductor Date: 04/06/10 06:15 Re: Santa Fe Caboose at Pomona, Ca. 1967 Author: ddg I have a "Santa Fe Left" & "Santa Fe Right" set of those with fuel pots & hanging brackets around here somewhere. They were an Adams & Westlake product. They showed a big Red to the rear, and when the train was in the clear in the siding, they had a pull pin that unlocked them and they could be rotated within the circular bracket, so the red no longer showed. I think the other smaller lenses showed amber & green. Some had the kerosene fuel pot replaced by a snap in electrical pot with a light bulb and a pigtail to plug it into an outlet near the corner of the car, as shown in the photo.

One position was red, the other three positions were yellow. They have the same Adams & Westlake lamp body as the Santa Fe switch lamp, but the ring is different, and the rear end marker had the large red lense.

I remember riding an SP caboose on a former Pacific Electric line; it still had the traditional stove and a box of coal to stoke it. Smelled like the coke ovens at Kaiser Steel.
