Santa Fe break - San Bernadino, CA.
Author: railwayman69

Here are some more Santa Fe pictures from the southern California trip I went on in July 1985. These three photos were taken of some Santa Fe stuff that was nearby and of their shop coplex that use to be in San Bernadino.

1). View from Mt. Vernon street bridge looking at some locomotives that were parked in the yard with the shops in the background.

2). another view from Mt. Vernon street bridge looking eastward towards the main shop building.

3). a pair of SD39`s were sitting in the yard waiting their turn to go into the shops for a rebuilding. The Mt. Vernon St. bridge is in the background.

The 4005 and 4017 would emerge in October and November 1985 respectively as 1563 and 1565. SPSF red and yellow debuted in August 1985 on SD45's ATSF 5394 and SP 7551, but Santa Fe apparently hadn't decided to go whole-hog on repainting just yet as these SD39's came out in blue and yellow. The 1565 eventually got red and yellow following repairs after a minor accident at Argentine.
