Summary: View of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad yard in Pueblo (Pueblo County), Colorado. Shows freight trains and locomotives. Lettering on freight cars reads: ‘Denver & Rio Grande,’ ‘Furniture and Vehicle Car,’ and ‘Palace Stock (Car).’ Horses and wagons are near a road on an overlook. Date: (between 1900 and 1910?). Attribution to Jackson based on the photonegative's inclusion in the Colorado Historical Society William Henry Jackson Collection. Title inked on negative. Summary: View of "Old Town" area (also called Goat Hill, Smelter Hill, or Old Mexico), Pueblo, Colorado, includes one-story wooden frame houses tightly clustered below Chicago, Burlington & Quincy railroad embankment; shows business and commercial area of downtown through trees; skyline includes Board of Trade building, First City Hall, and Union Depot (Station) Tower. ‘Old Town’ scene includes a woman near adobe beehive oven, picket fences and outhouses, and box and freight cars on railroad track. The door in the end of boxcar CB&Q 11935 is called a lumber door. They were very common on boxcars, and were used to load lumber, pipe, etc. that was longer than what could be loaded thru a side door. Usually located in the end of the car opposite the brake wheel.
