few UP on Cajon . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . back in the seventies the line over Cajon Pass was the First District of the Santa Fe Los Angeles Division and on the UP as far as power is concerned anything goes;
top: westbound at Cajon Station 12-76.
middle: westbound climbing the east side of Cajon Pass through Hesperia, CA 5-75.
bottom: westbound joint DRGW-UP-Santa Fe coal destined the Kaiser Steel plant in Fontana, CA also climbing through Hesperia, CA 5-75.

Maybe the coal ordinarily ran "wrong main"
thru Hesperia since it would go "wrong main"
west from Summit.

photo #2 is a classic a 40X-cabless 35-cabless GP-30 and what looks like an SD-24

Thanks but photo 2 is a DD35 A+B GP30 SD24 combo. Very typical for this period, and I probably messed up as pic three is probably a Santa Fe crew?

That's the UP I hired out on, it's just not the same (or maybe too much the same) anymore. Great photos, JB.-BMT
