Nostalgia & History > Amtrak P40 with large GE logo on sideDate: 09/01/11 17:45 Amtrak P40 with large GE logo on side Author: DuneCoon In 1997 (I believe), I saw a P40 with a large white GE logo on the side just ahead of the radiator intake screens. Does anyone remember what number this locomotive was? Did anyone get a picture of it? Thanks in advance.

I looked at the P40s on there, and the P42s, but still couldn't find a picture of that loco. Maybe that logo didn't last long. I even remember seeing a HO scale model of this loco in a hobby store in the late 90's. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

When initially released in June 1995, it wore solid gray primer with a simple GE logo on the side behind the cab door. The only photo I can find of it online is this one, with the unit third out behind a couple of 800's in June 1995:

No, it was most likely a P40 (since it was 1997, I doubt it was a P42). The one I saw was in full phase 3 paint, and was on the Texas Eagle at Longview, TX. The logo was large, I believe extending slightly over the striping, and the bottom quarter of the logo was sort of cut off since it "hugged" the radiator intake screens. There must have been something special about the unit I saw for it to have the large GE logo, but since I saw it in Longview, TX (far away from the northeast), I kind of doubt it was a P32AC-DM. Thanks for the link. |
