Nostalgia & History > Third and Townsend SundayDate: 11/27/11 20:06 Third and Townsend Sunday Author: africansteam Sundays at SP's 3rd 7 Townsend engine facility were generally pretty quiet as the San Francisco end of the commute fleet rested up for the next weeks rush. Here we have three views from a weekend in August of 1972.
Cheers, Jack Date: 11/27/11 20:23 Re: Third and Townsend Sunday Author: huskerherb Fantastic images. I used to photograph the southbound afternoon commuter parade in the early 1980s. I believe the actual diesel facility is located at 7th & Townsend.

~ BZ Date: 11/27/11 21:42 Re: Third and Townsend Sunday Author: TonyJ I agree that it is actually the 7th & Townsend diesel facility. Prior to the closing of Mission Bay Roundhouse it was a coach yard.
Tony J. Date: 11/27/11 21:54 Re: Third and Townsend Sunday Author: coach F-M sure had nice looking engines. Too bad they didn't make it. The trucks, carbodies and overall lines all looked good.

As a Southern California boy I tended to think of the station and engine facility as one and the same.
