Heading for St Louis. Vacation 1987-Pt 4
Author: SP6190

July 16, 1987

After spending a very interesting night in North Little Rock, we are on our way to St Louis, well actually Collinsville IL, our new base of operations for a couple of days. Some of the locations may be a little off as I forgot to mark the slides when I got them back, and after almost 25 years I kinda forget where some of them are. Sorry.

#1 The first train we were actually able to catch was the UP 228 southbound near Tuckerman AR.

#2 SBD 8210 was next near Swifton AR.

#3 They called it a local, but if I remember right it had about 150 cars. Here is MP1555 near Calvin AR.

#4 No sooner had we gotten back on the Hwy we saw the headlight of the the next train, the MP 3311 south.

#5 After shooting the 3311, it was back on the Hwy for maybe a half a mile when we saw the next headlight. This one belonged to the MP 3317.

#6 Near Scott City MO we caught the MP 4811 with a auto train.

#7 Following the 4811 was another auto train lead by the MP 9056.

I remember those days. It seemed like all of a sudden all we were seeing south out of Dupo was the C36 locomotives. Sure loved the MoPac blue.

Thanks for posting the photos John - they are great and bring back lots of memories.

Good thing you didn't let the Mop's C36-7's get by you.The last new engs the Mop purchased, and most were off the roster by 2000. Seems like they were rebuilt, and then the UP sold them . Good Work.
