Date: 03/27/12 20:03 Re: Rush hour in Chicago Author: colehour Brings back memories of the only time I rode a C&NW commuter train, summer of 1963 or 1964, from Northwestern Station to Great Lakes, Ill., to visit a classmate whose father was a naval officer and whose family lived on the base. When we got off the train at Great Lakes people thought we were recruits and kindly offered to show where to report for basic training.
The C&NW was a classy operation from what I recall, and I read somewhere that it commuter operations remained profitable well into the 1960s.
