Nostalgia & History > The rest of the story at Conway, KS.Date: 11/07/12 15:06 The rest of the story at Conway, KS. Author: upkpfan Here is the Rest of the story on the painting of a engine West of Conway, KDS.
A couple days or so down below, Santefe199 posted some pic. of a WAMX engine being painted out in the wide open spaces Just West of Conway, KS. They had it masked off and just the Yellow on it. They couldn't find any kind of a number on it anyplace and said they would have to come back and get some pics. when it was done. Well I knew I was going to be going by there on Sunday on the way to Wichita. Sure enough, there it sat just West of Conway and behind the berm of dirt that also showed up in Lances pic. I give you 3 pics. upkpfan Date: 11/07/12 15:56 Re: The rest of the story at Conway, KS. Author: WichitaJct When is it ever not windy enough in Kansas to paint something outside? Way back when I was a young-un I went on a tour of the Santa Fe Orient Shops in Wichita. I remember the shop foreman who gave us the tour of the shops telling us that he was visitng a friend who lived in the vicinity of the shops and his friend was bragging on his recently painted house. The foreman said he didn't say anything, but he could see little specks of the orange paint they applied to Santa Fe refer cars. They painted those cars outside.

In the early 70's a bunch of guys working in the car sheds at Topeka turned in claims for over spray damage at the Ripley Park parking lot.
