a lot of C&NW F's, but where?

OK you C&NW fans, where did I shoot this on Oct. 12, 1972? I didn't note the location, looks like 11 or 12 of 'em.

Second unit is, in fact, still painted in CGW colors.

Hello,

That looks much like Oelwein, IA to me. The sand tower and yard office building seem to match with that location. Oelwein typically had many Fs hanging around as well.

I was in both Oelwein and Marshalltown on that trip

The sand tower and pole with the transformer match pictures I took at Oelwein in 1973. The photo was taken from the north end of the diesel service tracks looking southeast.

I agree with Oelwein. The sanding towers in Marshalltown are north of
the shop building, which would have showed in the background. Plus,
they were on straight tracks. Background of this photo looks much
more like the business district of Oelwein.
