Here is another anonymous photo from the hobby shop Dollar Box.

Does anyone recognize this depot?

There also seems to be a sawdust Burner stack showing above the passenger cars. Hopefully this is a good clue.

Appreciate any info anyone might have.

I don't recogize the location, offhand. The train is possibly the San Francisco Chief circa 1968.

Yah, I was thinking Fresno or Stockton (cupolas) but didn't want to make a commitment:)

Yeah, I'm 95% certain that's Stockton. Train would be heading toward Richmond and would have just crossed the Stockton Tower junctions.

Yes, that was the eastbound home signal for Stockton Tower. It was replaced with mast mounted signals in January 1999 when the tower was closed, and those have since been replaced with a modern cantilever.

Yes Stockton, and the "tall structure" is the smokestack on the sawdust burner at the lumber milling operation across San Joaquin Street from the depot.

Funny, that was (and still is) Talyor Street.

The depot building looks very much the same today, except the Santa Fe emblem has been removed. Taylor Street, which the tracks are in the middle of in the photo is today just a narrow, one lane alley while the busy double track remains with a center and depot side platforms.

I believe there is (or was until recently) a lumber milling operation across the street still...of course that very old looking stack is long gone.

Almost certainly #1 in its last very short years, 1968-71.

It's #1, Westbound San Francisco Chief destination Richmond, California arriving in Stockton. I worked that train during the Summers and Winter holidays 1965 - 1968 while I attended San Joaquin Delta College and eventually graduated from Fresno State.

I'm guessing earlier than 1968. Anybody got
a 1968-or-later pic with just three Fs?

The train was heavy with head-end business until 1968, and the train in the photo is not. From the looks of the motive power assignments on his site, the train was assigned to 52-class PA's into Richmond during the 60's up until about 1966.
