If my memory serves me, that unit is a former NYO&W unit and the crinkle happened while it was on the O&W,again if my memory is still good I think it happened inside a tunnel with a rather large chunk of rock that had come loose, others can probably give you a better answer,,,

7024 was never a NYO&W unit it was one of first Erie orders of Ft'S 700 to 705, which were A-B-C- and D until EL Merger when numbers took over for Alpha

Thanks for the update, I stand corrected! the 7024 was originally 702D, blt 10-44,the O&W unit I was thinking of was the NYO&W 807A which went to the B&O and became their 4413,it also had a crinkled nose but due to a grade crossing accident!

I was under the impression that all of the NYO&W motive power went unsold and was scrapped. Is that NOT the case?

I believe 2 of the NYO&W F-3A units were sold to the Sacramento Northern.

Actually quite a number ended up on other roads,in the back of Bob Mohowski's book, New York Ontario & Western In The Diesel Age,he shows the disposition of the diesel fleet, there are a few still around today!

2 of the FT sets ended up on the B&O - 806 and the 807.

The three "passanger" F3A's wound up on the WP/SN.

The 2 F3A/B sets wound up on the Erie.

All were srcapped in the late 1960'-early 1970's

The bulk of the FT sets sat in the Erie's Croxton Yard until 1965 when the NYC bought them and traded them to EMD on their first order for GP40's
