Nostalgia & History > Seeking information on a test coal train . . .Date: 11/18/12 12:09 Seeking information on a test coal train . . . Author: GrandeGold Hello Nostalgia Fans,
I have been scanning some old Kodachrome slides this weekend. I don't recall the story regarding the attached photo shot at Provo, Utah on October 19, 1997. I believe it was a test coal train hauled by the BNSF from Denver via trackage rights on the UP to the North Valmy Generating Station along the WP in Nevada. The train is pictured changing crews with the Utah Railway at Provo Yard. The Utah will hand it over to the UP at Roper Yard in Salt Lake City. Does anyone recall any details of this unusual move? I don’t recall it happening more than a time or two. I realize this request is a long shot. Thank you for any information or insight you may be able to provide, James Belmont Salt Lake City, UT Date: 11/18/12 16:09 Re: Seeking information on a test coal train . . . Author: WAF NV power plant testing PRB coal instead of UT coal. Not unusual, especially in price wars and economics
