Date: 11/22/12 13:46 Re: 3 Part Santa Fe Wherezit Author: RNinRVR Well it is post Amtrak day, lok at the bag, and that sure looks like some type of C&O car behind the hilevels with the yellow letter board. Maybe early Amtrak Southwest Chief, if after Santa Fe told Amtrak to stop using the Super Cheir name.

This could be the Amtrak Chief which only ran in the summer of 1972. The area looks like Raton Pass but not sure of the exact location. Raton in daylight for the Chief would make this No. 20, an eastward train. Date: 11/22/12 15:18 Re: 3 Part Santa Fe Wherezit Author: Super_C Clearly out at the NM/AZ state line around Manuelito, NM and Lupton, AZ. That ain't Raton by a long shot; nor Glorieta Pass.

About 0.25 mile east of this photo is where the photo was taken (where the curve is). Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 11/23/12 07:03 by qnyla. Date: 11/22/12 18:49 Re: 3 Part Santa Fe Wherezit Author: bnsfbob Super_C Wrote:

You're right, out by Manuelito, the Puerco arroyo runs south of the tracks and has geography looking similar to that in the photo. If the train is the Amtrak Chief in the summer of 1972, a late-running No. 19 would fit with western NM or eastern AZ. Bob |
