Some reposts from several years ago...

C&NW Train #162 had been given a new name: "The Iron Country," when it made this evening stop in Negaunee, MI circa 1962. The train had formerly been known as "The Iron &Copper Country Express." It still carried an overnight sleeper to Chicago.

On another 1962 morning, #161 has arrived at Negaunee, MI from Chicago. Next stop, Ishpeming and the end of the line.

Here are two of the Peninsula "400." First is a photo was found in a Marquette, MI antique store by my aunt and sent to me. Date, photographer, exact location unknown, but some guesses are possible. May be near Palmer, and probably 1940's judging by slant-nose power and length of train.

Second photo is the Bi-Level Peninsula "400" arriving Negaunee enroute to Chicago, circa 1962.

From the CNWHS photo archive , the first photo is The southbound Peninsula "400," (train 214, 240 on Sundays) in the Town of Negaunee, gets an early start on its run to Chicago. Date and author unknown

Right, Kingman. That may have been I who posted the photo to the C&NWHS archive. At the time, I thought it was Negaunee, but since, in talking to some former C&NW railroaders, I'm not sure. Palmer seems unlikely, perhaps it is Little Lake or Sands. I was pretty familiar with the Negaunee area and often watched the "400" depart across the Healy Avenue crossing, and this area in the photo just does not look familiar.

As a 16-year-old kid, I rode this train, boarding at Negaunee for Chicago, after spending 2 weeks with friends at Ives Lake, near Big Bay, MI.

More LS&I, now in solid red. In the 1970's.
