The pieces fit
Author: PERichardson

I've always thought the elements in this image mesh quite nicely. Long Beach, CA 12-6-84. Occasion was the first train from LA harbor of steel plate from Brazil to then-new California Steel Industries in Fontana, CA.

Speaking of steel plate... it doesn't take x-ray eyes to see the incipient corrosion at work behind that superfluous insignia mount. What a silly idea that was, all for expedience in the paint process.

The car is looking great these days at the Durham Museum in Omaha, back to appearance as SP 2986, its original number, and in the "City" colors as it was built. The interior had been stripped and re-created by SP, and they did a credible job!
