some Early Amtrak E Units
Author: glcaddis

Here are a few pictures of some E units that were painted for Amtrak. Most shots were in Bloomington, IL. One is from Harrisburg, PA and another is from Chicago. There is one that I don't know where it was taken. Let's make this a where is it. I'd like to know which shot has not been identified and where is it?

The Amtrak #498 in Phase II stripes looks to be in either Pittsburgh or Chicago (old canopy). Also of interest is this was one of several Head-End Power (HEP) equipped E units - note the Amfleet car trailing it.

The picture with 498 is in Chicago; you can see one of the South Branch River bridges in the background.

Are they adding water for the boilers at Bloomington?

Interesting....several of the trains are carrying what looks like an ex-NH parlor-combine. Very few NH cars made it to Amtrak.
