Nostalgia & History > Bakersfield a lifetime agoDate: 12/11/12 16:58 Bakersfield a lifetime ago Author: lamta_jay As was said these were taken in Bakersfield a LIFETIME ago. Taken with my famous Instamatic Reflex camera. 126 film but it was an SLR
#1 and 2 taken on a trip on #51 and return on #52 with fellow TO member BobDRGW in 1970 #3 taken in 1969 while my dad was retrieving some merchandise down the street on Baker St. This shot really shows the Tule Fog. Thanks for looking Jay Date: 12/11/12 17:39 Re: Bakersfield a lifetime ago Author: Notch16 SP 2297 took a nice little hit. That spot of body filler and Simulated Stainless paint was a distinctive "spotting" feature.
I'm sure Ed Immel and the folks at ORHF know that little divot intimately, after having restored the car to operation in Daylight paint! The link below shows the car just a few days ago... http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/attachments/fullsize/705000/SPS700_OAKSPARK120112_3TO.jpg ~ BZ Date: 12/11/12 17:41 Re: Bakersfield a lifetime ago Author: kstevens Thanks for sharing photos of my hometown in the year I was born. Always enjoy seeing the things that were around before me. I would love to travel back in time and see these kind of things first-hand.

~ BZ Date: 12/11/12 21:16 Re: Bakersfield a lifetime ago Author: DNRY122 Getting a T&NO "Black Widow" F-unit with a Rio Grande "B" in the same shot with an SD40 is a rare catch!

Is it some kind of radio antenna? Sid. Date: 12/11/12 22:22 Re: Bakersfield a lifetime ago Author: MojaveBill Several Daylight cars carried those antennas so those of us riding in them could listen to radio stations along the line. They were on combines, tavern cars, observations and I believe some coaches. Not uncommon in the late '30s and forties and most stayed with the cars until the end. I have a speaker grill from one of the heavyweight tavern cars. The radio was piped into the whole trains.
