Rio Grande 5384 is first out

DRGW 5384 east and SSW 9666 east are lined up and ready to tackle the climb out of the Sacramento River Canyon at the Dunsmuir Yard. 5384 is just starting to pull on its train while the crew of 9666 are getting their grips onboard. This was railroading in Dunsmuir before the UP takeover.

Even long before the 1989 merger, the SP and DRGW always looked natural together. Great shot.
