Nostalgia & History > More early SP dieselsDate: 12/16/12 23:23 More early SP diesels Author: TonyJ Photos #1 and #2 are of EMD Model SW1 SP1016. It was retired in March 1969 and quickly sold to Bethlehem Steel Corp at Venon, CA as their #18. Photo #2 appears to be at Bayshore. SP 2-8-0 #2626 is alongside.
Photo #3 is of Alco S-2 SP1300 at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles. It was placed in service in May 1941. In the 1965 Renumbering Plan i was assinged to become SP1700, but it was never physically applied. I love the tiger stripes. SP1017 was built in 1941 and retired in 1962. I only had the opportunity to personally film a SP S-1 once, and that was the 1019 in Oakland in 1960.
Photo #5 - NWP SP1310 looks great in her as-delived tiger stripe paint scheme and lettering. In 1905 it was renumberd to 1904 and sold for scrap in 1975. I love the wooden PFE car on the right. I wish there was more of the Ventilator Car in the photo. Can someone identify the location? Photo #6 shows the 1310 in from of the Bethlehem Steel plant property in South San Francisco.
