Number one looks like the south side of Taylor diesel shop in Los Angeles, likely the work of Mr. Masterphots.

That is is, on 2/17/62

BLW 1027 is by Dave Ingles, Texarkana, 12/31/64

Did the RSD 5s survive long enough to be repainted in scarlet & grey?

And were they seen in L.A. much, if at all?

Some, yes.

Very little.

21 of them were traded back in to Alco and rebuilt into RSD12 models in 1961. Probably most, if not all of these didn't make it in to gray and scarlet. The rest of the fleet finished their days in Texas.

And two of the RSD-12s (2754 and 2758) are preserved at Orange Empire.
