Nostalgia & History > 1990's Photos from California and ?

We recently found several hundred photos taken by the late Lynn Nystrom of UP Steam fame in the early to mid 1990's. Supporting documentation is, for the most part, non-existent. I'm posting a few here, with what little information I have or have been able to puzzle out.

1. Denver Union Station, with (I assume) the California Zephyr servicing.

7. 844 in two-tone gray on display. This may be at Railfair 1991 in Sacramento. Numerous other photos in the collection are from Railfair 1991.

8. UP-CNW-Conrail consist on Cajon?

9. Cab shot of 3985. Looks like Steve Lee at the throttle. Also included for those who are wondering how to detail their 3985 for early 90's era.

10-12 Grounded wood reefers. I'm thinking SFRD USRA cars, but I'll defer to someone who knows wooden reefers better.

For those near Cheyenne, we'll be featuring these photos and many more as the program for the January meeting of the Southern Wyoming Division of NMRA to be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, January 20 at the Laramie County Library, 2200 Pioneer Ave., Cheyenne.

That shot of the CR 6607 was a rare catch, in regards to the C30-7. It was one of ten on CR, 6600-6609, and some of the first new units that CR ordered. What sorta made these units stand out was, they had a "Star" painted on the cab side denoting that they were being used in a "Fuel Comparison" test with the SD40-2 that were ordered at the same time. They didn't get off line that much and turned out they were the only "true" C30-7's on CR. Ben

The ones you thought were taken in Cajon are indeed in Cajon. All three look to be from the same hill on the curve at Cosy Dell. The Swarthout Rd crossing is just to the west. The helper shot was looking e/b up towards Cajon. The Santa Fe depot and Amtrak stop looks like Corcoran, CA looking south.

That's an eastbound between Canyon and Keenbrook at about MP475 0r 476 on the descending grade of Cajon Pass.

I concur, #5 looks like the Corcoran, CA ATSF/AMTRAK depot to me also.

Pic 3: Yes-This is Cajon Pass. Looks like this location is at Blue Cut.

Those circular silos just across from the depot, and the square one further away, confirm it is CORCORAN, CA.

844 is at Railfair 91 in Sacramento and I believe you can see 3985 behind her.

The Corcoran depot was torn down in August 1995, so the photo is no later than that.

Picture 5 is Corcoran and Pic 6 is Calwa yard looking West.

I concur #5 is Corcoran. #6 is Calwa, where the Visalia main breaks off.
