Nostalgia & History > Two Salina Switch Engines : 1 Normal and a CelebrityDate: 03/01/13 07:44 Two Salina Switch Engines : 1 Normal and a Celebrity Author: PRose A couple from the archives.
1) Normal switch power for the Salina yard for many years was a GP30 or 35 and sometimes a GP9. Sometimes a foreign road GP38-2 (Mopac or NW) would fill in. Here is the 868 pulling a cut up the lead in the Salina Yard. The Model 2 and 1 Air Conditioning (two windows and 1 door) is working well. Salina, KS August 28, 1984. 2) Sometimes emergency situations dictate unusual outcomes. The daylight switch engine is on the ground down in 8 track. It is normally used on the afternoon "City Job". With no spare switch engines available, the roundhouse brought out the "Celebrity" in town to do the honors. The 3300 is heading west on the Main to go spot the 9th St. dock on the afternoon "City Job". Burnham Shops in Denver. Don't expect to ever see it leave there under it's own power, engine doors are open on the engineers side and parts have been taken for other units still in service. HB |
