Modern Day Rock Island Tribute
Author: trainboy03

As most of us know on March 31, 1980 the Rock Island ceased operations. Although I wasn't born until 1984, I am lucky enough to live near the IAIS and have a deep appreciation for what was the Rock Island. Back on July 15, 2010, "HoggerMatt" and I chased the Rock Island heritage east from Ottawa to Joliet on an extra "MEBI-14" - ethanol from Menlo, IA to Blue Island, IL. The depot at Marseilles, IL (seen here) has been nicely restored and reminds us all of what railroad built it.

Hard to believe that IAIS 513 is now 3 years old and even harder yet is that the Rock Island has been gone for 33 years.

Good choice for an anniversary tribute photo, Erik.

Some of us old farts remember shooting actual Rock Island trains in front of that depot.

Very nicely done!

The weed sprayer ought to pay the area a visit, though :)
