Interesting RI photos
Author: AndyBrown

Here are a couple neat ebay slides, shot from the cab of an F-unit on an EB Rock Island freight, first at Durant, Iowa, then pulling into Rock Island, IL at the location formerly known as Terminal Jct. Sorry, no date but it appears to be mid '70s.

Oh yes, I think you've mentioned that before! Terminal Jct. must've been a DRI line name?

Here's another one at Durant just before the end, showing the famous sign on the west end of the depot. I posted this the other day under another thread but I don't think it got seen by many. Photo by Ron Reynolds.

Andy,
I believe the Terminal Jct photo is where the Rock comes down off the Missippi River Bridge and turns north to go through Rock Island, then Moline and on to Silvis into Kelly Yard. I will have to check my old maps and timetables.

Is that the "Big Ben" in the middle-left of that second shot?

Yes, Big Ben and the Reveler hung out regularly on the depot track back there.

Yeah, coming off the slough bridge headed (railroad) East toward Silvis. Q, Milw & DRI crossed there and to them it was Terminal Jct. On the RI it was 28th Street and was manned by RI switchtenders (switchmen). It was kind of a weird combination of signals on the RI main and a gate/smashboard on the other. There were also stop boards involved. I should also mention that the RI crossed over also from the yard west to the Milan branch.

That's the Rock Island I remember! Love that shot of the train going by the depot. You got some great shots there, Andy. Feel free to post more anytime you like.

It looks like the Butterworth Tours IC 2210 PS Dome that was a former IC/MP car. The portholed end door is the dead give away.

Okay, I'm not sure I'm familiar with that car but that's interesting. I'll be on the lookout for photos now!
